grant no. RES-451-26-0911 to
Prof. Peter L.
Patrick of the University of Essex
Dept. of Language & Linguistics
and Human Rights Centre,
in order to conduct a series of Research Seminars. The theme is "Language
Analysis of Asylum Applicants: Foundations, Guidelines & Best Practice", and the
meetings are to be held in 2011-12 at the
University of Essex.
Participant Biography
Karin Zwaan
... is the academic coordinator of the Centre for Migration Law, Radboud
University Nijmegen, the Netherlands. She teaches Dutch migration law and
refugee law at that university.
She wrote her thesis on the safe third country exception (2003) and has
published widely on refugee issues, including books on UNHCR and the European
Asylum Law (2005), the Qualification Directive (2006), the Procedures Directive
(2007) and the use of language analysis in the Dutch asylum procedure (2008).
She was co-organizer of the 2010 European Science Foundation Exploratory
Workshop on Language and origin: The role of language in European asylum
procedures with Pieter Muysken and Maaike Verrips, and together they edited
the proceedings volume:
