In mid-Feb 2012, the Australian Broadcasting Commissions's Radio
National Big Ideas program broadcast (some of) the Language and Law
forum which was held as part of the Langfest (linguistics conferences)
at Australian National University in Canberra in December 2011.
The theme of the forum was, "Is it possible to obtain justice in a language
or dialect that is not your own?" The forum chair was Damien Carrick (ABC Law
Report), and the forum participants were Lorraine Walker (Chief Magistrate,
ACT), Helen Watchirs (ACT Human Rights Commissioner), Simon Rice (ANU, and Chair
of ACT Law Reform Advisory Council), Michael Cooke (Intercultural
Communications), and LARG members Tim McNamara (Uni Melbourne), and Diana
Eades (UNE).
