Overview | This workshop intends to covers the basic rules and considerations for the import of goods into the UK whether those goods are purchased, loaned, donated or sent free of charge. |
Learning outcomes | - Understanding of complexity of importing goods from outside the UK and impact this can have on university purchases
- Understand the different ways to pay import VAT and duty. The University's position on payment of Import VAT
- How to budget for additional costs involved in importing goods vs. purchasing from a UK supplier (including hidden processing and internal costs)
- Gain awareness of relevant terminology to understand requests from import agents and be able to communicate with them about importing university purchases
- Awareness of potential import delays which can prove critical for time sensitive products
- To make informed decisions about whether or not to purchase goods from overseas suppliers, taking the financial, administrative and potential delay implications into account
