Overview | This session will give an overview of the purpose of assessment in UK HE from nurturing subject knowledge to developing core skills and local institutional vision. The session will also introduce traditional modes of assessment and the use of formative and summative assessments. The session will offer you the opportunity to evaluate your current practice with peers from across the university.
The session will also provide you with the pedagogic basis to support your CADENZA application/ PG CHEP portfolio to become a HEA Fellow mainly under D1 and D2 descriptors. It maps to the following UKPSF Areas of Activities: A3/ A5.
Learning outcomes:
By the end of the session, participants will have:
1. The basic modes of assessment and purposes;
2. The chance to discuss a range of assessment methods in terms of effectiveness and feasibility;
3. The opportunity to share experiences and current practices of assessment.
Who should attend?
Mixed audience of academic staff who are relatively new to designing modules/ assessment in HE and those who are familiar with different assessment designs but would like a refresher or keen to share their experiences with peers.
