TitleEducation Insights: New to Teaching in Higher Education

OverviewThis session is designed to get you on a good start with your teaching practice and help you to pick up teaching tips and get to grips with teaching methods in HE. The session offers an introduction to the basic concepts and practices of learning and teaching in Higher Education and the University’s tools, frameworks and resources. The workshop includes presentations and group-based activities, having the opportunity to share experiences and ideas with peers from across the university learning community. The session will also provide you with the pedagogic basis to support your CADENZA application/ PG CHEP portfolio to become a HEA Fellow mainly under D1 and D2 descriptors. It maps to the following UKPSF Areas of Activities: A1/ A2/ A5. Learning outcomes By the end of the session, participants will have: 1. The basic knowledge and tools needed to get started in HE teaching; 2. The chance to share experiences and ideas with peers; 3. The opportunity to enhance your continuing professional development. Who should attend? Academic staff who are relatively new to teaching in HE. Those who are not new to teaching but new to Essex may find part of the session useful and are welcome to attend. Graduate Teaching Assistants may also benefit from attending the session. If you have any additional requirements, please contact develop@essex.ac.uk so adjustments can be made.
