09 February 2015: The future of social science after the general election

Can social scientists be smarter about accessing funding? How can we get the government to value social science? In what ways are social scientists impeding their own success? These are a number of questions to be discussed at the Campaign for Social Science Essex roadshow.

With the general election in May and a government spending review to follow, this is a critical time for social science to shout loudly about its value to the UK economy and society. A new report, The Business of People: The Significance of Social Science over the next decade, published by the Campaign on 24 February, will feature in the event.

Exploring the critical role social science plays in our societies, helping them to face important challenges, the report will be commented on by Executive Dean for the Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor Todd Landman, on behalf of the University.

All staff in the Faculty are invited to attend this event which will take place on Wednesday 18 March, from 12.30 – 2.00pm in The Tony Rich Teaching Centre, TC2.14 and TC2.15. A buffet lunch will be provided from 12.30pm in the foyer, with the discussion beginning at 1pm.
