09 October 2014: High achieving students attend prestigious business event

Six students from the Faculty who had achieved the highest marks in their second year were invited by Executive Dean, Professor Todd Landman, to attend the prestigious IoD Annual Convention this month, at the Royal Albert Hall.

Focusing on the theme of ‘Game Changers’, the event saw a number of prestigious speakers, from George Osborne, Chancellor of the Exchequer, and Simon Walker, Director General of the Institute of Directors, discussing economic policy, to Peter Kellner, President of polling company YouGov talking about the Scottish referendum and the role of business in debate.

Talking about the Convention, Professor Landman said “The students were able to see first-hand what leaders in business across many different sectors are doing in the new digital age. They were particularly impressed with the highly motivational speech from Susan Sobbott, President of Global Corporate Payments, American Express about passion, purpose and perspective in all that we do.”

They were also impressed with the panel discussions on the digital economy, and how CEOs manage under challenging times. The event provided good opportunities for engagement and learning in ways that not only draw on their educational experiences at Essex but also the ways in which they are thinking about their futures."

Now in its 64th year, the IoD Annual Convention brings together world leaders, change makers and iconic business speakers to discuss topics of interest.
