17 October 2013: Lap dancing and Female Bodybuilding - an Essex event

The Centre of Criminology and the Department of Sociology at the University of Essex are to hold a joint event exploring the current debates surrounding lap dancing and female bodybuilding.

Female Transgression: Lap Dancing and Female Bodybuilding will be held on Wednesday 20 November at the University’s Colchester Campus and will explore how these two forms of bodywork both confirm and contradict gender stereotypes and how they are often regarded as transgressive.

The event, which is open to the public, will feature the work of two British scholars, Dr Rachel Colosi of the University of Lincoln and Dr Tanya Bunsell of St Marys University College. Both have written insider accounts of these controversial activities.

To register your interest in this event, or to find out more, e-mail: c4crime@essex.ac.uk or visit the Department of Sociology Facebook page.
