Survey Measurement and the New Frontier: Issues in the Design of Web, Smartphone and App-Based Survey Instruments

(This studentship begins in October 2013)

Applications are sought for an exciting 4 year MSc and PhD fully funded studentship. The project will involve  working with Ipsos-MORI on its programme of new research on the use of mobile devices for surveys.

The successful candidate will be jointly supervised by Professor Nick Allum at the Department of Sociology/ISER and Dr Patten Smith, Director of Research Methods Centre at IPSOS. . The studentship is offered as a four year 1+3, which includes taking an MSc in Survey Methods for Social Research during the first year. The +3 component will lead to the award of PhD in Survey Methodology.

Project details

Applicants should have a good undergraduate degree in a social science or related subject and an interest in quantitative methods. The studentship is open to Home, EU and Overseas students.
