28 November 2011: Research on history of kinship and sibling relationships gets BBC coverage

Professor Leonore Davidoff's research on kinship and sibling relationships in the British middle class between 1780 and 1920 features in an interview and round-table on BBC R4's Woman's Hour on Tuesday 29th November.

Professor Davidoff's book 'Thicker Than Water – Siblings and Their Relations 1780-1920' was published by Oxford University Press on 24 November 2011 and launches at the Wivenhoe Bookshop on Friday  9 December 2011 from 6.30pm.

"Thicker than Water is a pioneering history of sibling relationships in the long nineteenth century, from the last decades of the eighteenth to the first decades of the twentieth. The principal focus is on Britain, the first major capitalist society, and its middle classes, who were at the core of the nascent new order. It was their extensive family networks that provided the capital, personnel, skills, and contacts crucial to the rapidly expanding commercial and professional enterprises of the Victorian era."
