26 August 2011: Co-director of new MA Psychosocial Studies to speak at British Sociological Association seminar

Professor Mike Roper

Professor Michael Roper, Co-Director of the new MA Psychosocial Studies course, has been asked to speak on future developments in psychosocial studies at the inaugural seminar of the British Sociological Association study group on ‘Sociology, Psychoanalysis and the Psychosocial’ in October.

In November he will be talking about his book The Secret Battle at a meeting of the Applied Section of the British Psychoanalytical Society, and giving a paper to the Psychosocial Research Programme at the Open University.

Colleagues at Essex who have an interest in psychosocial studies, drawn from the Departments of Government, Sociology, Health and Human Sciences and the Centre for Psychoanalytic Studies, have been exploring this emerging field. The group has been successful in gaining funding from the Faculty of Social Science to host an expert workshop in March 2012 on ‘Psychoanalysis in the Social Sciences and Humanities’ to coincide with the launch of the new degree course.

Please contact Mike Roper on mrop@essex.ac.uk or Matt Ffytche on mffytche@essex.ac.uk if you have informal enquiries about the MA in Psychosocial Studies, or if you are based at Essex and are interested in joining our psychosocial studies group.
