23 June 2011: Colin Samson on Inuit Knowledge and Climate Change

As part of the University of Essex contribution to the Origins: First Nations Festival in London, Professor Colin Samson will be using his expertise on indigenous peoples of Northern Canada to comment upon and answer questions on the film, ' Inuit Knowledge and Climate Change'.

Zacharias Kunuk & Ian Mauro's film will be shown on Sunday 3 July, 12.30pm, at Rich Mix, Bethnal Green Road E1 and will be followed by a Q&A session with Colin Samson of the Department of Sociology, University of Essex.

"An unforgettable film from the multi-award winning Zacharias Kunuk (Atanarjuat The Fast Runner), and Dr. Ian Mauro (Seeds of Change), documenting the Inuit communities’ knowledge and experience of climate change and their deep intimacy with their environment. The film takes the viewer “on the land” with elders and hunters to explore Inuit culture and their expertise regarding environmental change and indigenous ways of adapting to it."
