22 December 2010: Sociology MA alumnus confirmed as Iraqi Foreign Minister

Hoshyar Zebari graduated from Essex with an MA in Sociology in 1980. He then went on to become Spokesperson for the Kurdish Democratic Party and a leading figure in Iraqi opposition politics in the 1990s. He was appointed Foreign Minister in 2003 and re-confirmed in post in December 2010.

Mr Zebari visited the University on the 11th November 2010 and gave a lecture on Iraq that was jointly hosted by the Departments of Sociology and Government.
