05 May 2010: New research on Turkish migration in Europe

In collaboration with colleagues from the Institute for Social and Economic Research at Essex, the Chemnitz University of Technology and the Free University Amsterdam, Dr Ayse Guveli has secured 2.4Meuro over four years from the New Opportunities for Research Funding Agency Co-operation in Europe (NORFACE) fund to research the migration histories of Turks in Europe through an innovative longitudinal historical approach. The "500 Families: Migration Histories of Turks in Europe" project will explore migration processes and the multi-generational transmission of social, cultural, religious and economic resources, values and behaviour. The research will be based around Turkish immigrant and non-migrant families, their descendants in European countries and those who remained in Turkey, and will involve survey interviews with some 6000 family members across four generations.
