11 August 2016: Sociology at Essex 8th for student satisfaction

The latest National Student Survey (NSS) results shows sociology at the University of Essex is ranked 8th nationally for student satisfaction.

98% of students studying sociology said they were satisfied with the course in the National Student Survey released this week.

Director of Education in the Department of Sociology Professor Joan Busfield said: "We are very pleased with the latest NSS results for the Department. We are particularly pleased to see that our highest score (97%) was in response to the statement ‘The course is intellectually stimulating’ – one of the areas where we have shown the greatest improvement over last year’s scores."

The Department of Sociology at Essex was rated top 10 in the UK for research quality (REF 2014) and ranked among the top 30 departments in the world according to the QS World Rankings 2016. It was also awarded Q-Step Affiliate status for its commitment to developing the quantitative research skills of students.
