04 August 2016: Exceptional students receive Faculty scholarship
Five students who graduated with a first-class undergraduate degree at Essex have been awarded our Faculty of Social Sciences Masters Scholarship to study for a Masters at Essex this year.
With courses starting in October in the Department of Economics, Department of Government and Department of Sociology, the scholarship supports students to undertake postgraduate study at Essex and covers all their tuition fees.
Five students were awarded the scholarship last year and are currently finishing their Masters courses. Talking about how the scholarship has helped with his studies, Luke Redman, who is currently studying MSc Economics, said:
“The thought of doing a master’s degree never crossed my mind, however the offer of the scholarship was too good to turn down. It turns out, doing a masters was hands down one of the best decisions I have ever made. After an extra year of studying I now know exactly what I want to do with my life and my masters will definitely help me achieve this.”
Sabrina Iavarone who is studying MSc Political Economy said “Receiving the scholarship was recognition of my achievements during my undergraduate studies, which made me feel extremely proud and strongly motivated to perform even better during my masters. The scholarship gave me the unique opportunity to study at one of the best institutions for political science in Europe and study on a great Masters programme which allowed me to deepen the knowledge I acquired during my undergraduate studies, especially in political economy and applied quantitative methods, as well as exploring new areas of enquiry.”
Ayshe Caluda, who is currently finishing her MSc Criminology and Socio-Legal Research, said: “The scholarship allowed me to continue my education at Essex by funding my studies. As part of the scholarship, I was a mentor for undergraduate students which helped develop my communication and coaching skills. As well as a Masters, I have also been awarded a certificate by the Institute of Leadership and Management for coaching. I would recommend it to everyone.”
