The Essex Santander Access Bursary

2019-20 entry

If you are a student from one of our Schools Membership Plus Schools or colleges, you could be eligible to apply for an Essex Santander Access Bursary to support you in progressing into higher education.

The University, in partnership with Santander, is offering 27 cash bursaries worth £1,260 each to students in their first year.

Eligibility

To be eligible you must meet all of the following conditions:

  • Attend a Schools Membership Plus partner school or college and finish your course in 2019 (eligible schools/colleges can be found in Appendix A).
  • Have chosen Essex as your firm choice by 28 June 2019.
  • Register for your first year of study for a full-time undergraduate degree course at the University of Essex in 2019-20 starting in October 2019.
  • Have a household income of less than £20,000 – this will be assessed via your application to the Student Loans Company.
  • Have submitted a means tested application to student finance
  • For the purposes of assessing your eligibility for the bursary, you and your sponsor (parents) must have provided consent to student finance for the University to have access to your household income details.
  • Submitted an application for the bursary no later than Friday 2 August 2019.

Students who aren't eligible

The following students are NOT eligible for this award regardless of meeting the above criteria:

  • Students on Higher/Degree Apprenticeship courses.
  • Students with direct entry into the second year.
  • Students studying online distance learning courses.

How to apply

Undergraduate applicants who attend a Schools Membership Plus school or college (see Terms and and Conditions for a list of Schools Membership Plus Partner School/colleges) and are applying to the University of Essex should complete The Essex Santander Access Bursary application form. This should be submitted no later than Friday 2 August 2019. Submissions after this date will be considered at the discretion of the University. Those who qualify for the bursary will be contacted after the date above via the email address associated with your UCAS application or your Essex email address, should you have one, with further details.

Payments

Successful applicants will be notified by the end of August 2019.

Payment will be made in two instalments, normally in November and February. Students must be registered for full-time study in order to receive payment. Please note that if our records show that you are in debt to the University when an award payment is due to be made, the payment will be offset against your student account in the first instance and you will be entitled to receive any balance.
