Clifftown champions fringe theatre in 2016
Vamos Theatre's The Best Thing is coming to Clifftown
Cutting edge fringe theatre productions are being welcomed into the heart of Southend thanks to Clifftown Studios and Theatre, the home of East 15 Acting School.
This year Clifftown is hosting shows which have been hits at top festivals such as the Ednburgh Fringe or are about to make a big impact in the theatre world.
Fringe theatre gives audiences the chance to see the stars of tomorrow and new writing talent while discovering the companies which are pushing boundaries and creating the most exciting work in the UK at the moment.
Head of Programmes at Clifftown Chris Main said: “There is little opportunity in Southend for quality fringe theatre and we are very happy to offer a home to some fantastic productions which our students and members of the public would otherwise not get a chance to see.”
The productions vary from Handa’s Hen, performed by Little Angel, the acclaimed children’s theatre company, to Sixties story The Best Thing, performed by Vamos Theatre - the UK’s leading full mask theatre company.
Chris added: “We want to make going to the theatre part of people’s lives rather than a single event and by bringing these productions to Southend, it means the students don’t have to travel into London and, as they attract a new audience to our theatre, our connections with Southend become stronger.
“We have an opportunity to help smaller companies grow and it’s a great way for our graduates to return with their own companies. We recently hosted The Eulogy of Toby Peach performed and written by an alumni and in April we will be staging Yes, Because, by a member of our teaching staff, Flloyd Kennedy.”
