Essex amongst global elite once again according to Times Higher Education
The University of Essex is the 5th most international university in the UK according to rankings published by Times Higher Education (THE).
Essex’s truly global academic community has also led to it being ranked 21st overall in THE’s list of the top 200 most international universities in the world.
The outstanding ranking is a reflection of Essex's unique international outlook. Essex draws students from more than 130 countries, with international students making up 40% of the student body. The University also attracts leading academics from around the world, and fosters innovative collaborations with prominent institutions across the globe.
THE Rankings editor Phil Baty said: “An institution’s global outlook is one of the key markers of a prestigious university. The top institutions hire faculty from all over the world, attract students from a global market of top talent and collaborate with leading departments wherever they happen to be based.
“It is great news for all the institutions in the list of the most international universities in the world. It is a sign of great potential, competitiveness and dynamism.”
Internationalism is central to Essex’s commitment to excellence in research and education.
The international environment at Essex allows students to discover the world in one place where they can develop a cultural sensitivity along with a genuine world view that prepares them for life as global citizens.

The 27 international student societies at Essex help create a vibrant atmosphere at its campuses. VP International at the University of Essex’s Students’ Union, Christine Anastasiou said: “The University of Essex is a truly international university and our family - the Students' Union and the University – is striving to inspire change across the world. We are proud and blessed to have more than 130 countries represented within our University and we will maintain our endeavours to send graduates out into the world to spread the Essex spirit.”
