School of Health and Human Sciences receives prestigious Bronze Athena SWAN award
A commitment to tackling gender inequality has led to the School of Health and Human Sciences at the University of Essex receiving the Bronze Athena SWAN award.
The awards recognise departments and universities which are leading the way in creating diverse and inclusive learning and working environments.
The School of Biological Sciences has already received a Bronze Athena SWAN award with several other Essex departments working towards recognition through the scheme.
Professor Aletta Norval, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) and the University’s Gender Equality Champion, said: “We are extremely proud the School has received a Bronze Athena Swan award.
"The Athena Swan award exists to recognise work undertaken to address gender inequality, particularly in relation to representation, the progression of students into academia, the journey through career milestones and staff working environments.
“The award is testament to the School’s commitment to the promotion of gender equality and the ongoing work in the School and in the University to ensure an open and fair working environment.”
