Game developers get chance to hear from Unity's technology evangelist

Andy Touch from leading game development platform Unity will be speaking at IDM Colchester - the first-ever game developer meetup in Essex .

The free event is being organised by Colchester-based online media publication DoubleUpGaming.com and will be held at Essex Business School at the University of Essex's Colchester Campus on Tuesday 13 October.

The whole game developer community including Essex students and academics are being invited to join the event with other leading experts from the games industry already lined up as future speakers.

The aim of IDM Colchester is to bring the area's talented community of game developers together in one space on a quarterly basis to network, demo games and interact with expert industry speakers.

Unity3D is the world’s largest game development tool with over 47 per cent of game developers using it to create their games. Andy Touch is one of Unity’s most prolific "technology evangelists" and is an expert in designing and developing games for a range of platforms.

Daniel Colaianni from DoubleUpGaming.com said: "We’ve created the first Independent games developer meetup North Essex has ever seen to bring together a community of hobbyists, professionals and local game studios. In partnership with the University of Essex and Colchester Games Hub we’ll be providing creative discussions around the the games development sector, bringing in a highly profound and expert speaker from Unity, all whilst providing an opportunity to network with local developers and gamers."

IDM Colchester is also being supported by Papa John's Pizza, Cymax Computers and Pittsfield Brewery.

The event starts at 6:30pm with drinks and networking then. From 7pm Andy will be giving two talks about how to create a successful game and using Unity to bring your games to life. The talks will be followed by the chance to discuss what people want from the games industry in Essex and how the IDM meetup can support this.

The next IDM event will feature another very special speaker from the games industry who will be announced on the night.
