Essex students have designed a new computer game which is being released this week. The team are part of the Games Hub based at Parkside on the University of Essex’s Knowledge Gateway.

The game, Bobblehead Mania, represents a comical endless runner and the quirky characters are inspired by historical figures or celebrities.

International relations student George Negoita said: “Designing a game is challenging but very rewarding once it’s finished. Being part of Games Hub was a great opportunity for us to meet with people representing big names in the industry such as Microsoft, SquareEnix, DLaLa and get valuable insight.”

The project, which started eight months ago, is a business incubator that allows young students to design games and learn how to run a business. After hearing about the programme, Laurentiu Cotiuga, Mircea Mocian, George Negoita and Cristian Olteanu recognised an opportunity to put their skills and creativity to the test.

“I am so proud of our team,” said George. “We worked day and night to make this happen and we hope people enjoy playing the game as much as we enjoyed designing it.”

Players navigate through the game by swiping up and down to avoid obstacles. The characters, some of which include Cleopatra, Breaking Bad’s Heisenberg and Game of Thrones’ Dhal Krogo, have special abilities which make the game even more exciting.

The team are hoping Bobblehead Mania will be a success and their plans for now are to keep developing the game and even start working on a new one.
