Our marine biologists are working with the Essex Wildlife Trust and the Blackwater oystermen to help protect and preserve the world-famous native Mersea oyster.

The native oyster population has reduced by 99% around the UK and Europe and is Britain’s most rare and vulnerable species and habitat.
