Essex launches largest ever academic expansion
The University of Essex is making a major investment in its academic staff, across all three faculties, in response to unprecedented enrolments and a significant rise in applications for places at the University.
60 additional academic posts will be recruited in the Faculties of Humanities, Social Sciences and Science and Health, to further enhance Essex’s reputation for delivering an outstanding educational experience.
There will also be investment in professional services staff to complement a £200 million investment in facilities which has created a £26 million student centre and library extension, a £22 million 650-bed student village, and a £27 million academic centre at the Southend Campus.
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Anthony Forster, explained: “We are building on the significant momentum we have developed over the last three years. This major investment is the most significant recruitment drive we have seen in our 50-year history, and we want to attract outstanding scholars who share our values and are excited about offering a transformational educational experience to our students.”
In 2015 Essex received one of the best results of any university in a Quality Assurance Agency Higher Education Review. In particular Essex was commended for its students focus, confirming its commitment to excellence in providing students with high-quality learning, supported by strong extra-curricular opportunities.
The 2014 National Student Survey results placed Essex 6th for overall student satisfaction and the Research Excellence Framework 2014 ranked Essex 19th overall and in the top four in the country for social science research.
