Jaina, a second year sport and exercise science student from Watford, is a trained Kathak dancer and has been dancing since the age of four.
“The BBC Young Dancer experience has been phenomenal,” explained Jaina. “It has already opened many doors for my performing career and has given an insight to what a dance performing life would consist of. Although you would expect the competition to consist of a competitive environment, there hasn't been as we have all been supporting one another throughout the whole process.”
The first BBC Young Dancer aims to turn the spotlight on the UK’s best young dancers aged 16-20. In this first year, performers were invited to compete in four categories: ballet, contemporary, hip-hop and South Asian dance.
The winners from each category (and two wild card places) will earn a position in the Grand Final at Sadler’s Wells, London, on Saturday 9 May which will be televised live on BBC Two.
