Graduates of the world-leading University of Essex Human Rights Centre are being encouraged to tell their stories by recording ‘selfie’ style videos as part of the University’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
Graduates who attended Essex’s anniversary event in Geneva last week - where the Human Rights Centre launched a pioneering new initiative on how to make human rights happen - launched the video alumni network by recording their stories.
Ian Seiderman, who graduated in 1993, is one of the first graduates to take part. He now works at the International Commission of Jurists in Geneva, and talks about his "wonderful years at Essex” in his video.
Married couple Salman Bal and Ylva Bie, who graduated together in 1998 and both now work in Geneva, tell a more personal story about how they met at Essex.
Over 2,000 people have graduated from the Human Rights Centre since the first course began in 1983.
The University celebrated the Human Rights Centre’s excellence in research and teaching with a series of activities earlier this month as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations. See the 50th anniversary website for full details and see the photos from our Geneva event on Flickr.
Are you a graduate of our Human Rights Centre? Tell us your story for our video gallery. We want to know who you are, when you graduated, where you are from, where in the world you work now and what you are doing, and how your Essex education is helping you achieve your goals. Keep it short (two minutes maximum please), make sure we can hear you clearly, and record your video in landscape format on your phone, tablet or camera. Send your video by dropbox to: kclayton@essex.ac.uk.
