ESCALA joining celebrations at Flipside Festival

The Essex Collection of Art from Latin America (ESCALA) based at the University of Essex is collaborating with the Flipside Festival at Snape Maltings to celebrate Brazilian culture.

Festival goers will be able to see a selection of artworks from ESCALA on the Mezzanine floor of the Hoffman Building on Saturday 4 October and Sunday 5 October.

Art works chosen are either made from or with wood, including sculpture and wood engravings. A number of the works, including those by Alex Gama, Chico Tabibuia and Antonio Henrique Amaral, draw on Brazil's indigenous and popular graphic traditions, featured at FlipSide in 2013 through the literatura de cordel, or 'string literature'.

Flipside has been created to celebrate Brazilian culture including food, literature, art, football, and music with events for the whole family.
