University of Essex sports scholar Tom Moore has made an impressive debut for the county’s first team in their match against Surrey.

Medium-fast bowler Tom trapped Ray Burns LBW on day one and took Jason Roy on day two after being handed the new ball.

Tom, 22, from Brentwood is just finishing his degree in Sociology and Management and has benefitted from the University’s athlete-centred approach to performance sport, including sport science support from the Human Performance Unit, lifestyle advice, an academic mentor and a bursary.

Tom is one of a growing number of talented sports people attracted to the University by the impressive support offered to young athletes. This includes performance coaches in volleyball and basketball, academic mentors, exclusive access to facilities and access to some of the country’s leading sports scientists.
