Centre of health excellence

HHS

A consortium led by our School of Health and Human Sciences (SHHS) has become an international centre of excellence in the education of health professionals.

As a Best Evidence in Medical and Health Professional Education (BEME) International Collaborating Centre, Essex is at the forefront of evidence-based health professional education.

The BEME Collaboration’s work will inform, develop and enhance the quality of educational practices in the health and care professions that graduate from Essex. This directly impacts upon the quality of care that is received by individuals and communities who use health and care services.

Led by Dr Chris Green from SHHS, the consortium includes the School of Health and Social Care at Bournemouth University, the College of Medical and Dental Sciences at the University of Birmingham and the Centre for Interprofessional Practice at the University of East Anglia.

By reviewing and applying best evidence in health professional education, the Collaborating Centre will create a stimulating, challenging and rewarding environment for students and staff. It provides an opportunity to align education and research whilst also offering staff and students the chance to engage in systematic review methodologies.

Dr Green will sit on the international BEME Board and Review Editorial Committee, shaping the direction and emphasis of future systematic reviews globally.
