Nepalese Chevening Scholar sets her sights high
Rukamanee Maharjan
A Nepalese postgraduate student of the University of Essex reveals that she aims to be a civil society leader of the future in the last interview of our Chevening Scholar podcast series.
Rukamanee Maharjan, who is studying LLM International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law at Essex, says that in ten years she aims to have returned to Nepal and “be setting examples in my community and in my country as well.”
Rukamanee, who was working for the International Center for Transitional Justice in Nepal before coming to Essex, describes how she has a particular interest in human rights relating to women in our interview. She also explains that she wanted to study at Essex because she felt it was “the best place where you can learn and grown in human rights.”
Rukamanee is studying at the University through the Chevening Scholarship scheme which identifies world leaders of the future and gives them the opportunity to study in the UK.
