Chevening scholarship is "dream come true" for Halil Kosumi

Halil Kosumi, 34, is a member of the Albanian minority in Serbia and has come to Essex to study for a LLM International Human Rights Law in the School of Law

Talking about his Chevening Scholarship on our SoundCloud channel he describes studying in Essex as “a dream come true”.

He is looking forward to taking the knowledge he gains from his course back into tackling human rights issues in Serbia.

He said: “The driving ambition for me is to continue to work in the area of protection and promotion of human rights.

“It is very important that the leaders of the future are educated and trusted individuals with strong motivation to work for a better future for all and be responsible for each step of the process.”

Halil holds a BA in Law from the South East European University, Tetovo, Macedonia, and LLM in South East European Law and European Integration from the School of Law at Graz in Austria.

He worked as Senior Legal Assistant at the Headquarters of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Mission in Kosovo. Here he was responsible for making comments on the laws drafted by the Kosovo Parliament, produced OSCE Human Rights public reports and prepared reports and inputs for the OSCE in Vienna. He prepared documents on behalf of the Human Rights Department and the OSCE Ambassador in Kosovo. The OSCE in Kosovo works under the umbrella of the United Nations Mission in Kosovo and its mandate is the institution building and human rights and rule of law capacity building of the Kosovo institutions.
