Brazilian scholar gives her thoughts on studying at Essex

Juliana de Oliveira Carlos is the latest University of Essex Chevening Scholar to explain how the reputation of the Human Rights Centre brought her to Essex.

Juliana, from Brazil, tell us about why she wanted to study human rights, and how it feels to have been given the opportunity to study in the UK through the prestigious Chevening Scholarship scheme.

Juliana explains her first term at Essex, meeting with people from “different backgrounds, different parts of the world,” as an “enriching and at the same time, challenging” experience.

She also talks about her hopes for the future after she graduates from Essex when she expects to return to Brazil to work in human rights practice. She explains that she came to Essex “to learn more but to be able to come back to my country and make a difference.”
