Find out the truth about financing university studies

Outreach staff from the University of Essex will unravel the truth about student finances next week at the University’s Colchester Campus.

Staff and students from Essex will be on hand from 7pm on Monday 18 November in the Ivor Crewe Lecture Hall at the Colchester Campus to help prospective students and their families understand how they can take advantage of financial assistance opportunities and manage their finances.

Claudia Carey, Education Outreach Officer, said: “The changes to the cost of tuition fees, along with an excess of sometimes conflicting information, has left many prospective students worrying about whether they can afford university.

“However, despite what they might hear, university is accessible to all, especially as there are numerous scholarship and bursary opportunities available. This event will provide prospective students and their parents or carers with the up-to-date facts with which to make an informed choice.”

The event features separate programmes for parents and carers, and for prospective students, with talks from Essex admissions staff as well as current students. It is one of two such events with another taking place at The Forum Southend-on-Sea on Wednesday 20 November.

The parents’ programme will demystify student finances including repayment of loans, explain the loans and grants available through Student Finance England and guide parents through the application process.

As well as general finance information, prospective students will benefit from advice from current students about living on a budget, managing their money, and what it is really like being at university.

The Colchester student finance evening takes place at the University’s Colchester Campus from 7pm on Monday 18 November. Book your place online or  email: outreach@essex.ac.uk or telephone: 01206 873424
