Businesses are being invited to showcase their work to some of the region’s brightest school science students at a special Big Bang Fair at the University.

Hundreds of school pupils will attend the Big Bang event at the University’s Colchester Campus where a host of interesting activities and demonstrations focused on science, maths, engineering and computing, will be showcased.

The wide range of activities planned for the event will highlight the University’s excellence in science research and will include demonstrations of collective crowd behaviour, as featured on Dara O Briain’s Science Club, coral reef and climate change research and how our brains function.

Organisations are invited to support the Big Bang event on Monday 16 December as it is an opportunity to raise the profile of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) in the area and promote the vital role that the sector plays in the UK’s future economic growth and prosperity.

Businesses wanting to take part will get the chance to showcase their organisation’s work to young people and raise the profile of their company in the local area. Companies can either host a stand with an interactive activity or demonstrate an activity illustrating how their business relies on STEM subjects to carry out ground-breaking research and/or produce exciting services and products.

Karen Gooch, Science and Health Faculty Employability Co-ordinator at the University, said: “We are delighted to be hosting Big Bang. This is a great opportunity for companies across the region to come and convey their passion for science and really inspire the young people of today – who will be the talent pool of tomorrow.”

Companies interested in taking part in the Big Bang Fair should contact Karen Gooch by e-mail: kgooch@essex.ac.uk or telephone: 01206 873169.
