A prestigious lecture at the University of Essex will mark the opening of a new collection for the University’s Albert Sloman Library.

Hosted by the Centre for Psychoanalytic Studies, the Holt Lecture, ‘The Superman as Salamander: Symbols of Transformation or Transformational Symbols?’, takes place at 5pm on Wednesday 6 May. It will be delivered by Professor Paul Bishop from the University of Glasgow who, taking his cue from scholar David Holt’s reading of Jung and Marx in relation to alchemy, Christianity, and the work against nature, will discuss the analytical psychological concept of transformation in the light of Jung’s notion of the symbol.

This special lecture marks the opening of the David Holt Collection in the University’s Albert Sloman Library. This collection of books relating to analytical psychology was previously owned by David Holt and donated to the University by his widow, Edith. Many of the texts include annotations made by David Holt and the collection will be available for viewing between 3.30pm and 4.45pm on the afternoon of the lecture.
