Postgraduates to meet Parliamentarians

Colchester Campus

Commonwealth students from the University of Essex will meet with Parliamentarians from their home countries at Colchester Town Hall today (Friday 6 March).

Visiting the town as guests of Colchester MP Bob Russell, the Parliamentarians are from Australia, Canada, India, Malaysia, Nigeria and Pakistan. They are currently in the UK for the 58th Seminar on Westminster Parliamentary Practice and Procedures, so are taking time to see the constituencies of British MPs.

The Essex students, who are undertaking courses from across the University including law, politics and biological sciences, will meet the Parliamentarians at 11am at the Town Hall. They will have an opportunity to chat about living and studying in the UK, as well as look around the building, visiting the Mayor’s Parlour and Moot Hall.

Sampada Tiwari, who is completing MA International Relations at Essex, is from India. She said: ‘I am looking forward to meeting delegates from my home country and talking to them about my postgraduate studies at Essex. This will also be a great opportunity for me to see how local government in the UK is organised.’

The University of Essex is one of the UK’s most internationally diverse campus universities, with students from over 130 different countries represented.
