Distinguished cultural historian to speak at University of Essex

World-leading cultural historian Professor Lynn Hunt is coming to the Centre for Social and Cultural History at the University of Essex to speak on Friday 14 June with eminent historian Professor Linda Colley leading the discussion after her speech.

Professor Hunt is Distinguished Professor of History and Eugen Weber Endowed Chair in Modern European History from UCLA and her lecture titled ‘Is Globalization the New Paradigm?’ is open to students, staff and the general public.

In the lecture Professor Hunt will review her forthcoming book on the rise and fall of cultural studies, the challenge of globalization and ways of rethinking self and society. She will also discuss The French Revolution in Global Perspective, which she edited with Suzanne Desan and William Max Nelson and is published this year by Cornell University Press.

Professor Colley is another highly distinguished United States based academic. Professor Colley, who is an expert on British history from 1700, is Shelby M.C. Davis 1958 Professor of History at Princeton University.

Her publications include The Ordeal of Elizabeth Marsh: A Woman in World History, which was nominated as one of the ten best books of 2007 by the New York Times.
