Essex students to receive Universities Business Challenge trophy
A team of University of Essex students, who recently scooped the top prize in the UK-wide Universities Business Challenge, will be presented with their trophy at Essex’s Colchester Campus next week.
The team from Essex Business School, who beat off competition from more than 300 other teams, will be awarded their trophy by Deborah Cardwell and Peter Cardwell, Directors of Learning Dynamics which runs the competition.
Team captain, Craig Cumming said: “The competition is a great opportunity to develop your business skills, and your business awareness, while having lots of fun.”
The team consisted of Craig, a second-year BA Accounting and Finance student, second-year BSc Management students Georgi Dimitrov and Kalina Georgieva, second-year BA Accounting and Finance student Hu Jiaxing, and third-year BA Accounting and Finance student Li Peiyao.
Professor Jules Pretty, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, who will accept the award with the students said: “The Universities Business Challenge is the top business competition for university students in the UK, providing students with an opportunity to develop their employability, enterprise and entrepreneurial skills. It’s a great achievement for our students to have won the 2013 competition, and is an experience that, coupled with the skills they have developed during their studies at Essex, will help prepare them for the workplace.”
The final of the UBC took place at IBM’s offices on London’s South Bank and was contested by ten teams with the University of Glamorgan coming second.
