Disability Awareness Week at University of Essex
From Monday 3 December to Friday 7 December the University will be holding events each day to mark Disability Awareness Week.
The events have been organised through a partnership between the Equality and Diversity, the Students’ Union and the Sports Centre. All staff and students are welcome.
To mark the week the Just Play programme will incorporate Paralympic sports for everyone to try.
There is also the chance to test drive Walk Colchester’s Bomba 7 all-terrain vehicle for wheelchairs users. Non-disabled staff and students can try it out as well.
If you want to take part in any activities you can just turn up and have a go, but you do need to book a place for the basketball tournament. Entry forms for the tournament are on the Essex Sport Facebook page.
On Friday 7 December there will be a Disability Fair on the Colchester Campus with lots of charities taking part including Guide Dogs for the Blind, the Alzheimer’s Society, Colchester Community Voluntary Services, Essex Carers and Go Active Mobility. A representative from Access to Work will also be available with information on how disabled staff and disabled students can be supported.
