- £3,000 scholarship available for a student enrolling in January 2013
The Edge Hotel School, the UK’s first hotel school based entirely in a fully operational commercial hotel, has announced it will award a BaxterStorey scholarship worth £3,000 for a student enrolling in January 2013.
The course allows students to earn a degree awarded by the University of Essex while working in the newly refurbished Wivenhoe House, a luxury hotel and restaurant. Students have the option of earning a 16 month foundation degree or a BA Honours degree in two years, in either hotel management or culinary management. The Edge Hotel School, which admitted its first students in June, has three intakes each year, the next being in January.
Alastair Storey, WSH Chief Executive and BaxterStorey Chairman, said: “We are delighted to be launching the BaxterStorey Scholarship at the Edge Hotel School. We’re passionate about raising the bar in the hospitality industry and are committed to supporting the aspirations of students who want to achieve the highest levels in their studies and in their career. We’re looking for someone who has integrity and is professional, motivated and energetic, to become our first scholar.
“We want to help develop the future leaders of the hospitality industry and strongly believe that ‘learning while doing’ at a unique, top-class institution like the Edge Hotel School is one of the best ways for young people to learn. Our scholarship will provide the resources for one stand out applicant to receive the very best start in what we hope will become a long and successful career in hospitality.”
Alan Jenkins, Principal of the Edge Hotel School, said: “We are thrilled with the support that the Edge Hotel School has received from BaxterStorey, from their expert advice and sponsorship of one of our most popular suites, to this generous scholarship. Our focus on providing the highest quality training to the sector’s leaders of tomorrow is closely aligned with BaxterStorey’s award-winning and innovative training.”
Scholarships will be awarded by a panel based on a combination of criteria from the application form and supporting statement.
The curriculum at the Edge Hotel School has been developed in collaboration with some of the sector’s leading employers and well-known industry figures including Michelin star chefs and 4 and 5 star hoteliers.
The new hotel features period suites and rooms, a new garden wing, a signature restaurant for more formal dining, a brasserie for informal dining and meeting rooms.
