Essex Business School’s distinguished lecture
Colchester Campus
Essex Business School’s Professor Heather Hopfl has given a talk as part of the Distinguished Lecture Series in Hong Kong.
Professor Hopfl was invited by Ricky Ng, Head of the Centre for Teaching and Learning. Her lecture, Theatre and Performance: A Dramaturgical View of the Organisation, looked at dramaturgical aspects of customer service roles. It was attended by more than sixty staff and students from the Hong Kong Vocational Training Council (VTC).
Professor Hopfl explains: ‘This was an excellent opportunity to speak to business and management students in Hong Kong about different approaches to the study of customer service roles than they normally encounter. Afterwards, I was approached by two members of staff who wanted to speak about the way we do doctoral work in management at Essex and I was interested to hear about their new course in Business Studies and Design.’
The Distinguished Lecture Series are occasional lectures, given to staff and students, drawn from the member centres run by the Council. They seek to build bridges between ideas at the forefront of academic research and students and practitioners-in-training.
Established in 1982, the VTC is the largest vocational education, training and professional development group in Hong Kong with over 180,000 students undertaking a range of pre-employment and in-service programmes with internationally recognised qualifications each year.
