First ever Mini-Graduation at the University of Essex Day Nursery

Vice-Chancellor Professor Colin Riordan with children from the day nursery

Thirty-two children from the University of Essex Day Nursery dressed in formal gowns and mortar boards to take part in their own special Graduation. The children, who are leaving the nursery to go on to primary school in September, were celebrating moving to the next stage of their learning journey.

The nursery's special graduates began their day by touring the Campus during a Graduation day, taking a look at activities in the Squares and marquees while experiencing the atmosphere and excitement surrounding the graduation process.

The Mini-Graduation will give the children a greater understanding of Graduation at Essex and parents were also there to watch the presentation of Graduation certificates at the end of their special day.

Nursery Manager Elaine Dixon said: “It was a brilliant day and it was lovely for the children to have the chance to see what Graduation is all about and even meet the Vice-Chancellor Professor Colin Riordan and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Jules Pretty. He really enjoyed meeting them too!

“Our Mini-Graduation lets the children at our Nursery, their parents and carers get involved in the fantastic atmosphere of our graduation days. It also gives us a chance to celebrate and mark the end of their own learning journey at the Nursery before they go on to join their new primary school.”
