One Out of 145 to showcase different cultures at Essex

The diverse cultures which make up the vibrant student community at the University of Essex are being celebrated at One Out of 145 – the Ultimate Cultural Showcase on Monday 20 February.

Ten finalists, including singers, rappers, guitarists and other talented students, will be competing to become the One Out of 145 champion.

The show, which is being hosted by the Students’ Union at Sub Zero, will also feature Indian drummers, Brazilian samba dancers, a jazz band and Chinese lion dancers plus comedians Geoff Schumann, Toju from Channel Four’s Balls of Steel, Tez Illyas and Jamie Howard.

Vice-President Services and Communications Kunal Patel said: “We are celebrating the diversity that this university campus has to offer as well as showcasing some rare student talent.”

Equality and Diversity, Communication and External Relations; and the International Academy have all provided support.

Acts taking part include Paragon Dhol Academy, Taste of Brazil and Essex Hung Kuen Kung Fu Association.

Doors open at 7 30pm and the show starts at around 8pm.

Tickets are £6 and are available from the Students’ Union reception or online.
