The University of Essex and online higher education provider Kaplan Open Learning have rebranded their online courses as University of Essex Online.

This new name reflects the increasing links between the University and Kaplan and the success the partnership has achieved over the past five years in delivering high-quality online courses.

Dan Roe, Head of Kaplan Open Learning, said: “The qualifications our students receive are awarded by the University of Essex and the strong reputation of the University and high-quality of the course is paramount to our students. The new brand recognises this importance.”

The partnership, which previously operated under the Kaplan Open Learning banner, gives students a flexible way to study online to achieve university level qualifications which are validated by the University of Essex.

University of Essex Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Nigel South said: “We are committed to meeting the different needs of students and University of Essex Online offers an alternative way of fitting in study time alongside work, family life and other commitments.

“We look forward to building on our successes and offering many others the chance to achieve their ambition of gaining a University of Essex degree.”

Courses offered include Bachelor and Foundation degrees as well as Certificates in Higher Education in areas such as Business and Management and Criminal Justice.

The virtual learning environment allows students to listen to and watch online lectures and take part in live seminars over the internet.

Dedicated student advisers provide support throughout the course and students can chat online with fellow students and their tutor. Regular assessments keep an eye on how students are progressing and check they are fully engaged with their course.
