Award in memory of Dora Love

STUDENTS of all ages in Essex and Suffolk are being invited to take part in a special competition as part of the University of Essex Holocaust Memorial Week.

The new Dora Love Prize will be awarded each year for the best Holocaust awareness project by an individual pupil or a group of pupils of a local school – primary, secondary or sixth-form college.

Dora Love, who died in October last year, was a survivor of Stutthof concentration camp and a University of Essex Honorary Graduate.

The new award was announced by Professor Rainer Schulze at a special Dora Love memorial evening at the University as part of Holocaust Memorial Week.

The award will go to the project which most focuses on what was most important to Dora Love in her own work, which included speaking up against hatred wherever it occurs, never forgetting the ultimate consequence of seemingly little acts of hatred and discrimination and developing a sense of personal responsibility.

The winner of the Dora Love Prize will be announced each year during the University of Essex Holocaust Memorial Week. The first prize will be awarded in January 2013.

Schools and colleges wanting more details should please contact Professor Rainer Schulze by e-mailing: rainer@essex.ac.uk
