An innovative free iPhone app targeted at potential students has been launched by the University of Essex.

The app, which is also compatible with the iPad and iPod, was developed to help students quickly find all the information they need to make a decision about studying at Essex.

Digital Marketing Officer Liz Burrows said: "We are one of the first universities in the UK to offer this kind of free app specifically aimed at prospective students.

"We are launching it for iPhones this week, but an Android version will be available in the next couple of weeks too.

"The app will bring together all the information which a student might need to make an informed decision about studying at Essex. It includes a whole range of information from a Course Finder to information about our open days. You can also contact us by telephone, e-mail or via social media such as Facebook and Twitter directly from the app.

"Students from more than 130 countries come to Essex to study so it is important we offer services like this to allow them to access information easily wherever they are in the world in the format they want to."

The app created in partnership with Geocast TV lets you:

• Discover what it is like to study at Essex
• Find information on how to get to our campuses by car, train, plane or coach
• Keep up-to-date with the latest University news
• Book online for one of our open days
• Browse information about our undergraduate and postgraduate courses and research programmes.

The University of Essex is constantly using the latest technology to provide information for students in new ways and is also one of the first in the UK to provide a Kindle version of its prospectus.
