New Year offers new opportunities

Colchester Campus

If the New Year is making you think about furthering your career and improving your CV with new qualifications then the University of Essex may have a solution for you.

Four faculty-specific postgraduate open days are taking place at the University’s Colchester Campus in February and March.

Each event runs from 5 to 6.30pm and gives potential students the chance to meet academic representatives from departments within that faculty who can answer subject-specific questions about postgraduate study at Essex and how it can improve their job prospects.

Victoria Bartholomew, from the Marketing and Student Recruitment Office, said: “Our faculty-specific open days reflect the different postgraduate study options at Essex and will allow visitors to find out about the benefits of postgraduate study. They also provide an opportunity to learn about faculty-specific funding opportunities.

“The University offers an outstanding environment for postgraduates and is rated ninth nationally for research excellence following the last Research Assessment Exercise. The timing of our faculty-specific postgraduate open days also means you can fully research all study options available to you before submitting your application form.”

The faculty-specific postgraduate open days are:

  • Wednesday 23 February - Faculty of Science and Engineering. This includes the Department of Biological Sciences, School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering, School of Health and Human Sciences, Department of Mathematical Sciences and Department of Psychology.
  • Wednesday 2 March - Faculty of Social Sciences. This includes the Departments of Economics, Government, Language and Linguistics, and Sociology, the Centre for Psychoanalytic Studies and the Institute for Social and Economic Research.
  • Wednesday 9 March - Faculty of Humanities and Comparative Studies. This includes the Departments of Art History and Theory, History, Literature, Film, and Theatre Studies, and Philosophy.
  • Wednesday 16 March - Faculty of Law and Management. This includes Essex Business School, the Human Rights Centre and School of Law.

At each open day visitors can also speak to staff from the University’s support services and take a guided tour of the Colchester Campus with a current student.
