Aaron offers relationships advice on Radio 1
Colchester Campus
Dr Aaron Balick from the Centre for Psychoanalytic Studies will be helping Radio 1 listeners with their relationship problems as part of the BBC station’s Relationships Campaign Week.
Throughout this week Radio 1 and Radio 1 Extra will be taking a look at the complexities of different kinds of relationships with a series of simulcast one-hour Surgery shows specials at 9pm, co-presented by Radio 1’s Surgery’s Aled Jones and Radio 1Xtra’s Breakfast Show host Gemma Cairney.
Aaron is one of a number of experts who will be joining Aled and Gemma across the week offering a wide range of advice and support for listeners. On Monday and Tuesday Aaron will be hosting the Radio One Facebook Page between 8-10pm responding to listeners questions about topics ranging from getting on with parents, divorce and sibling rivalry, friendships, peer pressure, jealousy and social networking . On Wednesday he’ll be on air taking calls about sex, self confidence, making up and breaking up.
Aaron is looking forward to the campaign but admitted it would be a challenge to help everyone: 'When you open the doors publicly like that you find that more people come flooding in than you can possibly help. There will be hundreds logging their questions on Facebook, scores ringing into the station, and thousands sending in texts. The best you can do is answer the questions that may be relevant to the most amount of people - that is, questions that others identify with. Of course there are those few that get you right in the heart -- and even if they are not the common problems, you've got to answer them too!'
The campaign culminates in a simulcast Surgery show live from a sixth-form college in front of an audience of 16 to 18 year olds on Sunday 5 December.
Alongside the simulcast Surgery specials other Radio 1 and Radio 1Xtra DJs are involved in the campaign – highlights include family members and celebrity friends coming into the studios and a celebrity speed dating session.
