Innovative nursing training focusing on working out in the community is to be offered at the of Essex Southend campus from September.

A brand-new Bachelor of Science degree, specifically designed for those who wish to make their career in nursing in the primary care sector, such as GP practices, will start running as a three-year course with all fees paid by the National Health Service and a £4,000 annual grant available.

Course leader Sarah Lee said: ‘The programme is patient focused, service led and student centred, it has been developed as a result of consultation with service manager and nurses.’

‘If you are keen to become a health professional and want to shape the future of nursing, this course will help achieve these objectives.’

The full-time programme balances the study of the clinical skills of nursing with academic study at degree level. Learning takes place in a state-of-the-art suite at the Southend campus in the High Street and in a range of placements, working with nurses in a variety of settings including primary care, private sector, adults and the elderly.

Successful completion of the course can take you on one of two career paths, either as a Registered Nurse Adult (general) nursing or into Mental Health nursing.
