The University of Essex is walking to work!

Colchester Campus

Staff at the University of Essex are being encouraged to get healthier and greener by leaving the car at home for National Walk to Work Week, which takes place from Monday 26 to Friday 30 April 2010.

On Wednesday 28 April University staff will be meeting up at 8am at the Castle Gates, Colchester Town centre, to walk across town to the Campus.
The University will also be holding organised walks, handing out pedometers, getting health advice from NHS health trainers, and treating walkers who get their steps up to a free breakfast.

Charlotte Humphries, the University’s transport policy co-ordinator said: “We’re committed to encouraging students and staff to use more environmentally-friendly ways to travel. Walking isn’t just healthy, it’s free! We’re also encouraging those that live too far away to walk to instead park and stride, or get off the bus a stop or two earlier.”

There are also other walking events taking place across Colchester and the surrounding areas for national Walk to Work week – and lots happening right across Essex – for more information visit the University’s website at www.essex.ac.uk/walktowork
